Squash & Racketball Club Champs 2026
Finals Day took place on Saturday 20 June and brought the club championships to a fitting close, with seven titles decided across a full day of squash and racketball at OVSC. The clubhouse was busy from morning to evening as the juniors opened proceedings and the Men’s Championship final closed out the day. 4 of the 7 finals went the full 5 games, which tells you everything about how competitive this year’s campionships were.
Junior Championship - the juniors kicked things off with a full tournament played across the day, and it produced arguably the story of the championships. Oscar Marshall took the title the hard way, winning back-to-back five-game thrillers — first edging Harrison Ford 3-2 in the semi-final, then beating Harrison's brother Josh Ford 3-2 in the final. Both Ford brothers reaching the last four was a great effort in itself. Entry numbers were up on last year and the standard of play was noticeably higher across the draw, an encouraging sign for junior squash at the club.
Ladies Championship - came down to a head to head final between Nicky Osborne and Nicola Baldwin, and it was Nicky who took the title 3-0. Nicola put in a great effort and takes home second place, and with two competitors flying the flag this year, the aim will be to grow the ladies' draw for 2027.
Handicap Singles - produced one of the day's great fightbacks. Peter Crossman raced into a 2-0 lead over Barrie Brien, only for Barrie to storm back and take the match to a deciding fifth game. Peter held his nerve to close it out 3-2 and claim the first of his two titles on the day.
Men’s Over 45s - final was another five-game epic, with Peter Crossman edging out Julian Peak 3-2 to complete a remarkable double. Two finals, two five-setters, two titles — a serious day's work from Peter.
Racketball - Julian Peak was back on court in the Racketball final, this time up against Will Henden, who took the title. Julian's two runner-up finishes capped an excellent campaign across both draws. Trophies were presented by David Aldridge.
Squash Doubles - The Doubles crown went to the pairing of James Shattock and Charlie McCall, who overcame Gareth Schnehage and Peter Crossman in the final. It was the first leg of what would become a double-winning day for Charlie.
Men’s Championship - The day closed with its showpiece, and the Men's Championship final did not disappoint. Charlie McCall and Stuart Hibbert traded blows across five games in an extremely tight contest before Charlie eventually prevailed 3-2 to be crowned club champion, adding the biggest prize of the day to his Doubles title.
