History of Oxshott Petanque Club
The club was originally established in 1984 as Leatherhead Pétanque Club, based at The Rising Sun, a large 1930s Harvester pub on Guildford Road, Fetcham. Playing as the 'Moles' and the 'Badgers', the club participated in the North Downs League as well as the Southern Counties Pétanque Association 6-a-side League. The Rising Sun was demolished to be replaced by a housing development in 2005, and the members relocated to Oxshott Village Sports Club. In 2012, the club received a huge boost securing nearly £47,000 from the National Lottery and Sport England as an Olympics legacy project. This was on top of £5,000 awarded by Elmbridge Borough Council. These grants funded landscaping work and the building of a new upper terrain to upgrade the facilities to some of the best in the South of England.
